Two years ago Stacey Pape opened SP Floors and Design Center. With aggressive plans for growth, she leased the building that formerly housed a Ford dealership and transformed the inside into a fabulous designer showroom with a separate contractor’s showroom.
They opened their new business in the depth of the recession while major flooring stores in Pittsburgh were closing down. Stacey commented, “We got into survival mode and the mindset of do whatever it takes. This is our livelihood, our income, it’s what we know, it is what we do. I knew great people who came on board and stepped it up, put it into overdrive and our team made it happen.”
An uphill climb, to say the least, she and her staff started up the hill. They immediately attracted a following and filled the huge auto repair shop with inventory.
A few weeks ago, she was informed by the landlord she had 60 days to vacate as the property was sold and the building was coming down. What would be a nightmare for many, Stacey and her team embraced the challenge and quickly set their sights on re-opening in a former Ethan Allen Furniture Store. Leaving no chance of history repeating itself, Stacey purchased the building.
Having begun the journey, they are now working on a 45-day remodel of their new building at 2917 Washington Road in McMurray, PA.
They hope to open very soon, sometime near the end of September 2012. Be sure to go by and welcome them to the neighborhood and check out the beautiful flooring and other interior decor they have to offer.
Stacey is excited about the move and new location. She said, “Our new facility is beautiful! We are excited and the community is as well. As a result of being featured in our local ‘In Community’ magazine, there has been an outpouring of people calling, which has been amazing and uplifting to us!”

The move will more than double their current showroom size to 7,000 square feet, making it one of the largest, (if not THE largest) flooring showroom in the Pittsburgh Area. “We are essentially a one-stop shop for all your flooring and decorating needs and our premier showroom will enable us to bring additional levels of services to our customers,” explains Veronica. “Even so, we are a work in progress, and we will continue to expand with future offerings in areas such as countertops, cabinetry, window treatments and other products related to our business.”
They cater to designers, real estate agents, contractors, restoration companies, property managers, home builders and commercial properties, as well as all residential homeowners. “Outside representatives who have clients of their own love that they can bring their customers to us and we can assist them in the selection process. Our goal is to eventually provide them with all the items they need for their home, all coordinated under one roof,” comments Stacey. The showroom includes a separate “builder area” specifically for new construction and a division for various ranges of commercial work.
SP Floors and Design Center offers a comprehensive selection of flooring, always with an eye on the most current designs in the market: hardwood, tile, laminate, carpet, area rugs, resilient, bamboo, cork, vinyl, rubber and more.
